Modern patients typically have multiple morbidities, leading to polypharmacy, which can have extremely unpleasant consequences. Recently, Host Directed Therapeutics (HDTs) – treatments aimed at the macroorganism, allowing a person to recover by stimulating their own defenses and normalizing homeostasis – have become increasingly popular. In particular, restoring the balance of the antioxidant system promotes recovery from many diseases.
This review presents data on the effectiveness of exogenous antioxidant factors, both non-enzymatic low-molecular compounds (vitamins A, E, and C) and microelements (selenium, zinc).
Conclusion: The modern pharmacopoeia allows for the treatment of virtually any disease, but the associated damage can be significant. Recent studies have shown that in some cases, the body can recover on its own, with minimal support aimed at normalizing the immune system, redox balance, local cytokine therapy, and secretome correction.
