This review discusses the potential for the use of various antioxidants as neuroprotective agents in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Experimental studies of antioxidants in various laboratory models of parkinsonism are presented in detail. The main clinical trials of antioxidants as therapeutic agents in PD are also reviewed. This article is aimed to familiarization of readers with the current state of pharmacological research on antioxidants and the main challenges of their use in PD. The article demonstrates the potential of combining antioxidants with traditional PD therapy and highlights the main limitations associated with the use of antioxidants in clinical practice.
