Metabolic effects of metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and new coronavirus infection
Limited contraindications for use, lack of stimulation of insulin secretion, weight gain and an extremely low risk of hypoglycemic episodes determine the relevance of the use of metformin as a first-line drug in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). The potential of metformin is not limited to its use in DM2. Numerous studies determining the pleiotropic effects of metformin have expanded the range of use of this drug.
