Drug therapy of patients with pulmonary hypertension: view on the future
Current classification of pulmonary hypertension (PH) is described, overall approach to its treatment are disscused. The paper is dedicated to using conventional PH therapy (calcium antagonists, anticoagulants, glycosides, diuretics, oxygen therapy), as well as new drugs for its treatment which have entered in clinical practice within last 10-15 years (endothelin receptor antagonists, prostaglandins, phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors). Their appearance offer hope of the possibility of slowing the progression of PH and even regression of changes in pulmonary vessels, and prognosis and patients quality of life improvement.
