Treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: problems and ways of their solution
The article is concerned with basic principles of treatment of patients with type 2diabetes mellitus (type 2 diabetes and the current barriers to effective glycemic control in this category of patients. Low treatment compliance is the first and most important reason. It can be associated with insufficient knowledge about disease, lack of motivation to change lifestyle and self-monitoring. We also discuss the side effects of hypoglycemic therapy (especially hypoglycaemia), the importance of the availability of drugs cost-effectiveness for treatment of type 2 diabetes. We consider applicability of new antidiabetic drugs - analogues and agonists of glucagon-like peptide-1 and dipeptylpeptidase-4 inhibitors.
