Use of nitric oxide in patients with pulmonary hypertension
We consider the physiological role of nitric oxide (NO) in vivo and present data for its synthesis and metabolism. NO has many important functions, one of which is vasodilatation. NO also can inhibit adhesion and aggregation of platelets and leukocytes, inhibits the release of platelet growth factors, synthesis of endothelin-1, and inhibits proliferation of smooth muscle cells. NO production disorders associated with dysfunction of the endothelium, which plays a key role in the development of pulmonary hypertension (PH). We submit data for the feasibility and effectiveness of NO in idiopathic LH. As far as NO inhalation is practically impossible at home, the search for new forms and administration ways of NO in the body of patients suffering from various types of LH is in progress.
