Cushing's basophilism in children and adolescents
We discuss the various aspects of Cushing's basophilism (CB) in children: clinical manifestations of disease (including age-related features), the differential diagnosis of various types of hypercorticalism, the options of CB treatment, the main tasks of follow-up observation. In the Russian Federation in the treatment of children with CB are used two alternative methods: proton beam irradiation of pituitary gland (protonoterapiya) and selective transsphenoidal corticotropinoma resection. Both methods are effective and safe. Indications for a particular type of treatment are usually determined by individual patient’s characteristics.
