Analysis of physicians’ practice of antihypertensive therapy conduction in Russia (according to the data of PIFAGOR III study)
We presents the results of pharmacoepidemiological study PIFAGOR III (2008) conducted to examine the actual medical practice of treatment patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and its compatibility with current guidelines. The results of this study were compared with data from previous PIFAGOR I (2002) study. Analysis of physician preference in antihypertensive therapy demonstrated its compliance with current national guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of hypertension. Based on current evidence-based medicine data, doctors adequately assessed the advantages and disadvantages of different classes of antihypertensive drugs (AHD). As a result, the distribution of major AHD classes used by physicians has become more balanced; proportion of short-acting drugs is significantly reduced as well as AHD with adverse safety profile. Combined antihypertensive therapies have come to be used more active by physicians.
